PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Human beings have fundamental rights simply by virtue of their humanity. When these human rights are violated, many of us want to help defend those in need of protection but don’t know how. While many human rights organizations raise awareness, they often fail to offer real solutions. Trinity’s Master of Legal Studies in Human Rights will train you to find legal solutions to complex human rights violations and prepares you to offer actual relief to real suffering.

Core Curriculum (15 Units)

Legal Fundamentals (3 units)
Contracts (3 units)
Torts (3 units)
Philosophy and Theology of Justice (3 units)
Business Organizations (3 units)

Additional Courses (15 Units)

Constitutional Law (3 units)
International Criminal Law (3 units)
Introduction to International Human Rights Law (3 units)

Choose 6 units from the following:
Introduction to Bioethics (3 units)
The Theory and Law of Armed Conflict (3 units)
The Right to Life and the Law (3 units)
The Rights of Vulnerable Persons: Women, Children and the Impoverished (3 units)
The Rights of Minorities (3 units)
Religious Liberty and the Law (3 units)
Genocide and the Law (3 units)

Study Abroad options:
Human Trafficking and Economic Development – Cambodia (3 units)
International Institute of Human Rights (4 units) & International Forum on Human Rights – Strasbourg, France (2 units)

Admission Requirements

MLS applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). The GRE is not required for admission. In addition to the application, applicants must provide official transcripts from the colleges/universities at which they have earned degrees and two letters of recommendation.

Program Costs

Per Unit: $750
Per Course: $2,250
Total Program Cost: $22,500 (tuition only)

The above totals do not include fees. Scholarships and federal financial aid are available.

Required Disclosure

Except as provided in rule 4.30 of the Admissions Rules (legal education in a foreign state or country), completion of a professional law degree program at this law school other than for the Juris Doctor degree does not qualify a student to take the California Bar Examination or satisfy the requirements for admission to practice law in California. It may not qualify a student to take the bar examination or to satisfy requirements for admission to the practice of law in any other jurisdiction. A student intending to seek admission to practice law should contact the admitting authority in the jurisdictions where the student intends to qualify to sit for the bar examination or to be admitted to practice for information regarding their legal education requirements.
